MFA1A00-Exxx are QSFP28 VCSEL-based active optical cables made for use in InfiniBand 100Gb/s EDR systems. 100G EDR AOCs provide predictable latency and very low power (2.2W), and they enable increased air flow, tighter bend radii, and longer reach when compared to DAC cables, and hence find the most use as interconnects for very high-speed InfiniBand High Performance Computing (HPC) environments. Also, being hot-pluggable, AOCs can be easily installed or replaced.
MFA1A00-Exxx has a QSFP28 port on the electrical side toward the host system and compliant with the SFF-8665. Each end has four multi-mode fiber optic transceivers, each operating at a maximum data rate of 26 Gb/s.
MFA1A00-Exxx has selectable retiming per lane for its optical transmitters and receivers for the 25-26Gbp/s rates, but the AOC also supports lower bit rates without retiming. The transmitters have programmable input equalizers and an input squelch function, while the receivers have programmable output amplitude and pre-emphasis.
