HP LTO-6 Ultrium Tape can write or read data consuming 1.4 TB/hour, storing, encrypting and protecting up to 2.5TB (up to 6.25TB compressed) on a single unit.  The increase in the number of tracks from 1,280 tracks for LTO-5 to 2,176 tracks for the 6th generation HP LTO-6 Tape 6.25 TB disk, 70%, has increased the bit density, allowing more data to be recorded in the same amount of tape.  The memory chip in LTO Ultrium tape cartridges allows for better media monitoring and faster access times.
